Due to rain falling ahead of the snow, road crews have had to wait for the right conditions to work on area roads.

K-Dot spokesman Tom Hein says snow plows have been at the ready, but they've had to be patient because of the rain and ice, just like the last winter storm.

Meanwhile, the City of Wichita has re-stocked their salt and sand mixture.  Spokesperson Megan Lovely says crews are prepared to work twelve-hour shifts.

Forecasters predict a coating of freezing rain and sleet before snow begins to fall during the overnight hours.  That will create a challenge for snowplows attempting to cut through the frozen mix under the snow.  A total of new snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches possible by the end of the day.

Officials are warning of a rough time on area roads, and recommend planning ahead if you need to venture out on Thursday.
