Wichita State University has presented its current and future construction plans to the Kansas Legislature, highlighting a new multi-million-dollar dance and theater building.
According to Emily Patterson — the university’s executive director of facilities planning — the project has been approved by the Kansas Board of Regents and will soon be under construction.
The 58,800-square-foot building will cost $46.35 million, funded through private donations. According to the project request, it will have three floors and be located on the west side of campus near the Duerksen Fine Arts Center.
The project proposal says the building will house the university’s dance, theater and acting programs, as well as the College of Fine Arts dean’s office, faculty offices, and student support spaces.
A construction date has not been set, but once the university breaks ground, the build is expected to take about three years.
