Wichita residents will pay five-percent more for water and sewer in 2024.

The Wichita City Council approved the rate increase which will help to pay for the nearly $1.7 billion in infrastructure upgrades, including the new water treatment plant and improvements to the waste water facility.

Compared to other cities in the region, like Kansas City, Topeka and Tulsa, Wichita's rates remain lower, even after the increase on January 1.

Residential customers using 7500 gallons of water per month will pay an additional $3.63 a month next year.
