The Wichita City Council has approved $150 thousand for the city's 2025 water conservation rebate program.
$110 thousand is budgeted for residential customers and $30 thousand for wholesale customers. The final $10 thousand will purchase water efficient showerheads and sink aerators that can be picked up at city hall, neighborhood resource centers and libraries, while supplies last. The city says a 1.5 gallon per minute shower head can save 5000 gallons of water per year over a traditional 2.5 gallon per minute showerhead.
Council member Becky Tuttle says the program is vital for water conservation efforts in Wichita, saving roughly 481 million gallons of water since 2013.
The city says an eligible rain barrel is worth up to a $100 credit on your water bill, as is an eligible dishwasher, toilet or washing machine. For more information, including a list of eligible devices, visit savewichitawater.com or call 316-265-1300.
While the program will officially begin Wednesday, February 19, it is retroactive to January 1.
