The Wichita City Council approved a 2021 budget for the Century II convention center at Tuesday morning's meeting.

The facility has taken a financial hit recently, thanks to the on-going pandemic. Century II also had a budget deficit of around $2.3 million in 2019.

Anticipated revenues of $600 thousand and the city's transient guest tax will help cover operational costs.

The city has managed the facility since 1969 but will soon accept proposals that would hand over management to an outside party. Officials say it'll likely be summer before any contract could be accepted. The city will retain ownership of the building.

In other council news, the city approved a $400 thousand budget to complete work and repairs at Friendship, Sherwood Glen and Pawnee Prairie Park playgrounds.
