
Wichita Mayor Brandon Whipple gave his State of the City address Thursday evening. The Mayor highlighted a number of accomplishments that include, funding programs to curb homelessness and aid poverty prevention. Increased funding for police and fire. As well as an unemployment rate at 2 1/2%.

He also pointed out that a new medical center will be opening this fall, he called the progress part of turning the Air Capitol, into the Opportunity Capitol of the World. “We’re actually the number one city in the country, when it comes to advance manufacturing,” Whipple said. “So we gotta keep our eyes on the changes in the economy, so we can also be prepared for these new opportunities,” he added.
Even with all the accomplishments made in 2021, Whipple said that he'd like to see the city do more. Especially what the city can do with the mental health and substance abuse collation with the County and community based policing.
