Woman dies in airfield accident near Derby

A woman is dead after being struck by an airplane propeller Saturday afternoon.

It happened a little after 2:30 p.m. at Air Capital Drop Zone at Cook Airfield, located in the 7000 block of S. 143rd St. East, just east of Derby.

Fire Marshall Johnathon Marr said the woman was taking pictures at the airfield when she accidentally backed up into a moving airplane propeller.

The victim was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition and later died.

The victim's name has not been released.
