A homemade improvised explosive device was found in Newton Saturday night. According to Newton Police, they received a report of a suspicious device in the 900 block of North Sherman.
Initially an officer briefly examined the device and speculated that it could be a homemade pipe bomb. Police say it appeared as if someone had tried to ignite device, but it failed.
Newton Police contacted the Wichita Police Department Bomb Squad who responded to the scene. Authorities there are so far no suspects at this time.
