Two emergency vehicles crashed into each other while responding to a call for a possible drowning in the city of Marion, Ohio, on Monday.

The Marion Fire Department shared that the crash happened at around 3 p.m. and involved a 2021 Marion Police Ford Explorer and a 2019 Ford F-550 Marion City ambulance.

The police cruiser was being driven by a 51-year-old officer and collided with the ambulance, being driven by a 22-year-old Marion man, when the two were passing through the intersection of Fairground Street and North Main Street at the same time. The ambulance was also carrying a 24-year-old Marion man as a passenger at the time of the accident.

After being hit on the driver’s side, the ambulance overturned, sliding off the northwest corner of the intersection and coming to a rest on its side.

The police cruiser sustained serious damage to the front of the car, where it made impact.

The fire department shared that both the two men in the ambulance and the officer were transported to Marion General Hospital. The medics were reported to be in stable condition with minor injuries. The officer’s condition was not shared, and after arriving at the first hospital, they were then flown to Riverside Methodist Hospital.

The 911 call the first responders were driving to was a possible drowning at Quarry Park. The drowning victim was eventually helped and taken to Marion General Hospital. They are currently listed in stable condition.

The Marion post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
