BALA CYNWYD, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A stretch of very hot days is in the forecast, with temperatures expected to stay in the 90s into next week. Many people in our area, however, are saying "no sweat."

They're more than happy to beat the heat outside after a summer last year filled with COVID-19 restrictions.

At the Belmont Hills Pool in Bala Cynwyd, Nirali Wadhani of Penn Valley described her strategy to escape the heat.

"We try to just get out in the mornings and in the evenings and keep our kids busy and we love swimming so we're here, at the pool," she said.

But even at the pool, where everything looks back to normal, there are still coronavirus restrictions in place — like signups that limit the number of people who can enter.

"I work in health care so it's been a tough year," added Wadhani. "It feels good just to take a deep sigh of relief and say we're coming into the summer, and it's going to be a good one and we can relax a little."

Merion Station resident Stuart Chase said he's happy it finally feels like summer, though maybe it's a little too much.

"It's almost human nature where we say, 'We can't wait until it's warmer, we can't wait until it's warmer,'" he said. "Then it's warm for two days and we say, 'Oh, it's too hot.'"

He said he expects to do some complaining as well. "We are hitting mid-June in the Northeast. It's what comes with the territory."

However, Chase said he's also incredibly appreciative to be outdoors after a year of COVID-19 quarantine.

"The fact that we can be outside, my kids can be outside, I'll take the weather however it is right now," he said. "The kids are outside, they're happy. I'll deal with heat, I'll deal with whatever it takes right now."

For Penn Valley resident Jennifer Chen, being at the pool felt glorious.

"We’ve been basically hanging out in our backyard for the longest time. This is probably our first time doing anything in this crowd of an area but I feel safe with it with all the vaccination rates going up," she said.

Other poolgoers shared their own tips on how to cope with the hot weather. Those include keeping the air conditioner on, drinking lots of water, staying in the shade, wearing light clothing and lots of sunscreen.
