A new report has found that President Joe Biden has been preparing to face off against Donald Trump in several different ways, including preparations for his “unhinged” self and his more disciplined side.
The report comes from NBC News, which cited three people familiar with Biden’s debate preparations. It highlighted that Biden’s goal is to bring out what his aides have called “the true Trump.”
To best prepare ways to “trigger” Trump, the sources said that Biden’s advisers have been going through the former president’s recent remarks so they can find a way to get him upset if he demonstrates self-control.
One source said that the goal is to get “rally Trump” to make an appearance and be on full display during the debate.
The rules of the debate will see microphones muted if one of the two men starts to speak over the other during their allotted time. However, depending on which version of the former president shows up, Biden’s team feels prepared.
As for Trump, the former president pondered which tactic to take during his rally in Philadelphia last weekend.
“Should I be tough and nasty and just say, ‘You’re the worst president in history’? Or should I be nice and calm and let him speak?” Trump asked the crowd of his supporters.
Trump also suggested that he and Biden take drug tests before and after the debate as he continues to push the claim that President Biden gets a “shot in the a–” before his speeches.
“DRUG TEST FOR CROOKED JOE BIDEN??? I WOULD, ALSO, IMMEDIATELY AGREE TO ONE!!!” Trump wrote Monday on Truth Social.
Biden campaign co-chair Mitch Landrieu shared with “Meet the Press” on Sunday that in the end, it didn’t matter what strategy Trump took, as the president is prepared either way.
“It really doesn’t matter how Donald Trump shows up. If he comes in unhinged, like he is most of the time, or he sits there and is quiet, people are going to know that he’s a twice-impeached convicted felon who has been found to have defamed somebody, sexually abused somebody, and gone bankrupt six times,” Landrieu said.
Trump is almost certain to go after Biden’s cognitive abilities and age during the debate, attempting to show that he is too feeble for a second term, as well as the current state of the country and global affairs.
On the other hand, Biden is likely to go after Trump for his current legal troubles, his behavior after the 2020 election, and also his own mental lapses.
The debate is scheduled to take place in Atlanta at 9 p.m. EST and will be hosted by CNN. It will run for 90 minutes.
