(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Chicago’s annual Christkindlmarket at Daley Plaza has officially opened for the season.

The market is regularly ranked among the best holiday markets in the United States.

More than 50 vendors and a host a slew of different food, beverage and craft vendors will be present at the Chicago Daley Plaza Christmas market alone, plus another 40 at the Aurora location.

Marci Watts was the first person in line Thursday evening and talked about why she loves the annual German market. She said she loves the spirit of the installation and the crafts that are sold.

“And, of course, the food,” she said.

Leila Schmidt, a marketer for the event, said Chicago is "starting to look a lot like Germany."

Mayor Brandon Johnson was also among those who showed up for the first night of Christkindlmarket, which runs through Christmas Eve. There are also locations in Wrigleyville and Aurora.
