A Republican Texas congresswoman is attempting to lure New York police officers to the Lone Star State, saying that it offers them a state free of “pro-criminal” politicians who back the blue.
Rep. Beth Van Duyne shared her plea for New York officers through an ad in the New York Post, telling officers to “escape New York and move to Texas!”
The ad cited the death of NYPD Detective Jonathan Diller, who was fatally shot during a traffic stop last month.
Van Duyne wrote in the ad that she was “disgusted as one pro-criminal politician after another attempted to force themselves into the solemn remembrance of Officer Diller’s heroic career.”
Van Duyne accused New York of being “purposefully anti-law and order” and said that officers were under the threat of cuts because of the state’s “Defund the Police politicians.”
She also claimed that officers were having to fight off illegal immigrant gangs and violent career criminals.
“It’s time for you to leave these loathsome and destructive folks behind. ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK!” the ad said.
Van Duyne also spoke with Fox News about her plea to New York police, saying that she was trying to convey the “respect and heartbreak” that she and Americans across the country feel for what officers in New York are facing.
“It feels like they’ve been abused, undermined, sold out by the politicians, the representatives who take the side of the criminals over the police and, quite honestly, over the citizens,” Van Duyne said.
Overall, she said the officers would have better lives in Texas than they do in New York.
“The quality of life is so much better in Texas, where we actually value individual freedoms, where we respect our officers, where we enforce our laws, recognizing that people want to live in safe communities,” she said.
