GROSSE POINTE WOODS (WWJ) - Police officers in Wayne County claimed they were greeted with unexpected pushback from a worker at a Metro Detroit urgent care earlier in the week.
The Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council told WXYZ that an officer from the Grosse Pointe Woods Department of Public Safety was at Michigan Urgent Care - Grosse Pointe for a routine screening on July 5 when he said he had a disturbing encounter.
According to the police union, a female worker at the urgent care made a series of uncomfortable comments to the officer.
"Right away (she) starting saying things like, 'Why do you gotta come in here with all your get up on?' and 'How many people have you killed?'" said Dave Willis, Michigan Fraternal Order of Police, said to Fox 2.
The officer immediately reported the incident to his supervisor, who made his way over to the facility.
When the supervisor showed up, Willis said he was also met with similar comments.
"And that same person started on with the supervisor asking, 'How many people are you going to beat up tonight?' or 'How many people are you going to kill after you leave?'" Willis said via WXYZ.
According to the police union, the Arizona-based company NextCare -- who operates Michigan Urgent Care - Grosse Pointe --- has reached out to police and apologized.
The company said in a following statement that the employee was fired.
"NextCare is aware of an incident that occurred July 5th at our Michigan Urgent Care Facility in Grosse Pointe, Michigan involving inappropriate comments made to a member of local law enforcement. This type of employee behavior is not condoned, nor is it consistent with NextCare’s mission or values. The employee involved is no longer with NextCare. NextCare strives to provide an exceptional level of service to all members of the communities we serve and that did not happen; we apologize to the people affected by the comments. We know that the top priority of local law enforcement is the safety and well-being of the community. We share that priority and appreciate the work they do every day to meet that goal."
WXYZ reported the company plans to meet with the officers.
