Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis made his first stop on his presidential campaign last Thursday, speaking with supporters in New Hampshire. However, after finishing his speech, he appeared to get into it with a reporter.

“Are you blind?” DeSantis asked Steven Peoples from The Associated Press twice.

The question arose after the Florida Gov. and Republican nominee hopeful finished his stump speech with more than 100 listeners at a Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Laconia.

DeSantis shared that he was not taking questions after his speech, something that The Associated Press reporter was curious about.

Peoples asked DeSantis why he wasn’t taking any questions, to which the Republican appeared to snap at the reporter.

“People are coming up to me, talking to me,” DeSantis said. “What are you talking about? Are you blind? Are you blind? People are coming up to me, talking to me whatever they want to talk to me about.”

The response from DeSantis came as he was shaking hands and mingling with individual members of the crowd. However, he did not answer questions from his lectern so that voters could all hear the answers he was providing.

DeSantis still remains a ways behind former President Donald Trump in Republican polling, and many who would support the governor over the former president are pushing for him to take a different approach.

“My advice is not to try to out-Trump Donald Trump. There is nobody that is- really, that operates in the same area as Donald Trump,” Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

The advice from Buck also comes as the Republican nominee field has grown, or is expected to grow, with many high-profile Republicans preparing to join the race. This includes former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Vice President Mike Pence.

Still, Trump and DeSantis remain the top two names in the party when it comes to who Republicans want on the ballot in 2024.
