WATCH: Detective investigating Queens crime scene struck in head with stick

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An NYPD detective investigating a crime scene in Queens on Monday was struck in the head by a man walking down the sidewalk with a stick, a video shows.

The footage of the incident shared on Twitter by the Detective's Endowment Association shows a man wearing in a hoodie, black sweats, and flip flops walk up to the detective holding a large stick in each hand.

The man then struck the detective in the side of the head with one of the sticks before running down the street.

"Even as our Detectives investigate crimes they're attacked by emboldened criminals, who have quickly realized there are no consequences for law breakers in our city," the Detective's Endowment Association wrote on Twitter.

"The DEA is calling for this violence to be fully prosecuted as we look to file civil charges," the account added.

The attacker was then chased by two other officers at the scene.

The attack happened at about 11:50 a.m. while the detective who worked for the department's Crime Scene Unit was investigating the scene of a robbery that took place at around 5 a.m. at 39-07 Prince Street in Flushing, police said.

Akeele Morgan, 25, of the Bronx, was arrested and charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct, officials said.

The detective was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital.

"Once again, New Yorkers witness just how embolden violent criminals are as a detective in uniform is attacked in Queens today," DEA President Paul DiGiacomo said in a statement. "This individual needs to be fully prosecuted as the DEA explores ccivil action."
