Disney will help after family buys $10,000 of the wrong gift cards for theme park visit

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Central Illinois woman’s family will be able to go on their Disney World vacation this month, despite a very expensive mistake.

Andie Coston of Normal returned to TikTok to update a now-viral post about how her parents bought the wrong kind of gift cards for their family vacation.

Days ago, she asked for help in contacting someone at Disney after she says the 78-year-olds bought $10,000 in cards for Disney+ -- the streaming service, not the theme parks. Their intent was to pay for tickets for 16 family members to go on a big family vacation 'to the happiest place on earth.'

They had never even heard of Disney's streaming service. But they quickly discovered the cards they bought were non-transferable.

After sharing a video about their costly misunderstanding -- that has been watched at least 2.9 million times -- Coston says someone from Disney reached out to her parents to say they can use the cards for their family trip this month.

The social worker and mother of four says she’s heard from other people who have made the same mistake, but not to the tune of $10,000.

“I’m glad that this is resolved. I hate that this is what it took. I really hope this doesn’t happen to other people,” Coston said.
