A Home Depot customer is recovering after being bitten in the face by a dog while shopping in Colorado last month.
The customer was allegedly approached by dog's owner and trainer on March 31 and asked to give the dog a treat as part of its training.
"The customer agreed and gave the dog the treat, and then the dog bit the customer in the face," the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
While store employees were tending to the victim, both the dog owner and trainer quickly left the building.
"The victim sustained serious injuries and requires facial surgery as a result of the bite," police said.
In an effort to identify the owner and trainer, the sheriff's office on Thursday released footage of the women recorded by the store's surveillance camera. Hours after the footage was released, the women were identified and contacted by police.
From the surveillance footage, the dog appears to be a Great Dane.
"We appreciate the public's interest in this case and would like to clarify that dog owners are responsible for their pets' actions. The owner would be held accountable for restitution or in the event of any enforcement action," police said.
The sheriff's office said dogs involved in biting reports are required to be quarantined at their home for 10 days, to ensure they are not exhibiting any behaviors associated with rabies.
It's not clear if the dog owner and trainer will face any charges.
