As the midterm elections on November 8 grow closer, the primary elections in 14 different states begin this month. Control of Congress is on the line.

Primary elections began in Texas on May 1, and will start on Wednesday, May 3 in Indiana and Ohio. Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) announced on Jan. 24 that he will be retiring, and has created a battle in the Republican primary between five candidates.

Author J.D. Vance, who received an endorsement from Former President Donald Trump on April 15, led a Fox News poll released on April 25 with 23% support. While his top competitor, former state Treasurer Josh Mandel, was second with 18%.

Trailing Vance and Mandel was investment banker Mike Gibbons with 13% of the votes, Ohio Sen. Matt Dolan who had 11% of the votes, and former Ohio GOP Chairwoman Jane Timken who collected just 6% of votes.

Moving throughout the country, voting in West Virginia and Nebraska will begin on May 10, followed by a busy May 17, when Idaho, Kentucky, North Carolina, Oregon, and Pennsylvania all begin voting.

U.S. Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) is also retiring, creating another competitive battle in the primary elections. Rep. Ted Budd and former Gov. Pat McCrory are the leading GOP candidates, as former Rep. Mark Walker is trailing them in early polls, according to NPR.

In Pennsylvania, Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb, State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, and Jenkintown Borough Council member Alexandria Khalil are all battling it out for the Democratic nomination for the Senate seat.

While the Republican primary between former CEO of Bridgewater Associates David McCormick and TV doctor Mehmet Oz has also heated up, as Trump has expressed his endorsement of Oz.

A recent poll conducted by Franklin & Marshall College showed that 43% of GOP voters remained undecided on who they'll vote for, as Oz and McCormick received just 16% and 15% of voters support, respectively, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Towards the end of the month, primary elections will start up in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, and Minnesota on May 24. Texas will also hold their primary run off on May 24 if necessary, according to CNN.

Former NFL and University of Georgia star Herschel Walker is going against incumbent Sen. Rev. Raphael Warnock, who still holds an advantage over Walker in early polls, despite Walker's endorsement from Trump.

The governor and secretary of states races are also tight in Georgia, as current Republican Gov. Brian Kemp is fighting for the nomination against Former U.S. Sen. David Perdue. Kemp is favorited in early polls, as he "could clear 50% in May and avoid a possible June 21 runoff," according to ABC News. Trump has expressed his support of Rep. Jody Hice for the secretary of state position over Brad Raffensperger, who's running for reelection.
