NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Will Smith's Oscars slap and subsequent profanity-laced dig at Chris Rock didn't go over well with many viewers -- particularly parents. So much so, that the Federal Communications Commission received 66 complaints ... and we've got them all here.
First there was the now-unforgettable slap across Rock's face after he said to front row Oscars attendee Jada Pinkett Smith, who lives with alopecia, "Jada, I love you. 'GI Jane 2,' can’t wait to see you." Smith then returned to his seat and shouted at Rock, "Keep my wife's name out your f***ing mouth!"
Cue the FCC complaints.
TMZ obtained the 66 complaints (see PDF below), and many were parents upset that their children witnessed the violence and profanity. Many also raised the issue of raise. According to Nielsen, 16.6 million people watched the Oscars.
"We are disgusted and shocked that this was allowed to happen and Will Smith faced no repercussions and the audience actually sat their quietly and later awarded him an award and let him speak about peace," read a complaint from a New York City resident. "Please fine the producers of The Oscars and the network."
An upstate New York viewer wrote, "No fines or anything?! Yet Janet Jackson was stripped on live tv as well and you folks went after her in multiple ways.
Such a double standard once again….if it’s men it’s just boys will be boys, but when a woman is involved, you drag her through the mud and fine her?! Fine Will Smith for promoting violence on national television."
A viewer from Oklahoma wrote, "During the 2022 Oscars, my kids saw Will Smitrh (sic) commit an act of vioelence (sic) on Chris Rock. It was a very uncomfortable conversation the next morning and I was aksed (sic) if Black men are always violent."
"Hello, during the 2022 telecast of the Academy Awards, Will Smith physically assaulted Chris Rock on stage," read a complaint from a California viewer. "This reprehensible act shocked my family and child, whom asked me innocently, 'why did he hit that man?'"
