Yogurt marketed for children called YoCrunch has been recalled due to potential contamination with plastic pieces, according to a notice published Tuesday by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Danone U.S., the company that makes YoCrunch branded yogurt products, explained that a “dome topper” on the yogurt that contains candy topping such as M&Ms may have plastic pieces inside. These pieces could pose a risk of choking.
Danone U.S. said that consumer complaints have reported that there are plastic pieces in the toppers. It said they are transparent, are between 7 and 15 millimeters in length and may have sharp edges.
“The issue is isolated only to the separately packaged topper and does not impact the separately packaged yogurt,” said the notice. It does, however, impact all sizes and flavors of the YoCrunch products sold nationwide.

The voluntary recall was initiated on last Friday and it is being conducted in cooperation with the FDA. As of this week, Danone U.S. is working with its retail partners to get the recalled products off shelves. At the same time, it is also working to address the issue and get safely packaged products back on those shelves.
“Consumers who have purchased the affected YoCrunch products should not consume them,” said the notice. “For information on refunds, please contact the YoCrunch Consumer Care Line at 1-877-344-4886.”
Consumer Care specialists are available to speak live Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.
Earlier this year, KYW also reported on a recall of Frito-Lay products and a recall of liquid egg substitute due to potential contamination with cleaning products.
