DETROIT (WWJ) -- Federal safety regulators are investigating 1.4 million Honda and Acura vehicles that could be prone to engine failure.
WWJ Auto Beat Reporter Jeff Gilbert says there have been 414 reports of V6 engine failures after a 2023 recall.
"Investigators want to know if the issue is wider than first thought," Gilbert reported.
This investigation includes the Honda Pilot, Odyssey and Ridgeline, as well as a number of Acura luxury models, most in the 2016-2020 model years.
Back in 2023, a notice the automaker filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said a connecting rod bearing in the engines of some Acura and Honda models was defective and could cause the engine to “run improperly or stall while driving, increasing the risk of a fire, crash, or injury.”
Gilbert said Monday that it’s too early to tell if this new investigation will mean an expanded recall.
