A new ruling by the Federal Trade Commission could be a godsend for vacationers trying to make sure they’ve budgeted properly for their getaways.
On Tuesday, the FTC ruled that ticket sellers, hotels and vacation rental sites must disclose all fees up front, eliminating policies that keep additional fees hidden from the consumer until the last minute.
The ruling is one of the final edicts expected to come from Joe Biden’s Presidential administration before Donald Trump moves back into the White House next month.
“We all know the experience of encountering a hidden fee at the very last stage of checkout — these junk fees sneak onto your bill and companies end up making you pay more because they can,” Biden said in a statement.
“Those fees add up, taking real money out of the pockets of Americans,” the President continued.
“I urge enforcers to continue cracking down on these unlawful fees and encourage state and federal policymakers to build on this success with legislation that bans unfair and deceptive junk fees across the economy,” FTC Chair Lina Khan added.
