Wait a minute, Doc. Are you telling me you built a time machine? Not exactly, but a DeLorean -- the car featured in classic hit 'Back to the Future' -- became something of a time machine when it was discovered in a barn in pristine condition.
Reports say the iconic car has all its original parts from 1981, and only 977 miles when an Illinois man who runs a restoration company discovered it in a barn in Waukesha County, Wisconsin.
It had been hidden away there, untouched, for more than 40 years.
Michael McElhattan, owner of DeLorean Midwest, a restoration company, first heard about the vintage gem when the nephew of the car's original owner found him online and called him from New Mexico.
McElhattan agreed to check it out. He liked what he saw, snugged up safe and undriven for decades in an old barn.
"The condition of the leather, the condition of the instruments, cluster in the dash, and a lot of places where you see sun damage -- and that’s one of the big killers on this -- this car virtually has no sun damage," said McElhattan.
His find can be someone else's gain, too: He says his plan is to restore the car to showroom condition and get it back on the market -- and the road. Although, where you're going in it, you may not need roads.
"To take a car from this condition to what I know we can do with it is just -- that's an adventure anybody wants to be on," McElhattan said in a local report.
He didn't reveal how much he paid for it, but Road & Track reported that only about 9,000 original DeLorean DMC-12s were made between 1981 and 1983 and one in top condition can easily fetch more than $100,000.
"This barn find with less than 1,000 miles has the potential of being one of the best in the world once it gets sorted," Road & Track reported.
