NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Harvey Weinstein's sweet tooth got him trouble with Los Angeles County jail guards in November, after he was caught with Milk Duds, which are considered contraband, according to a new report.

Weinstein, who is staying at the Correctional Treatment Center in downtown L.A., was reprimanded after the discovery of the chocolate-covered caramel candies by guards, records reviewed by Variety revealed.

The Milk Duds were discovered during a search on Nov. 10 after Weinstein, 69, had an in-person visit with one of his lawyers, Shawn Burkley.
Jail guards were not pleased with the discovery and confiscated the Milk Duds. They also warned his attorneys that their binders and laptop bags would be searched on future visits.

But Weinstein -- who awaits trial on 11 charges of rape and sexual assault, and has appealed a 23-year sentence in New York -- claimed he brought the Milk Duds with him when he was extradited from New York in July. But jail officials said he was searched upon his arrival in L.A and nothing was found.
Regardless, Weinstein apologized. "This was an innocent misunderstanding,” he said in a statement to Variety. “It will not happen again. I have been a model inmate, following the rules and regulations and I am sincerely sorry.”
Weinstein’s lead attorneys, Mark Werksman and Alan Jackson, also issued an apology.
“We have been informed about this and are very sorry it happened,” they said. “It had not happened before, and never happened since. Harvey has been a model inmate and intends to continue as such.”
