The race to be former President Donald Trump’s vice president appears over, as he shared with reporters this weekend that he has the pick in his head.
Before speaking at his Philadelphia rally on Saturday, Trump told NBC News that he had settled on his choice but didn’t give any hints as to who he chose, saying, “Nobody knows.”
“In my mind, yeah,” Trump said when asked if he knew.
The choice of who Trump will choose as his running mate has left his supporters and enemies on the edge of their seats as several top Republican names continue to be floated ahead of next month’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and this week’s first presidential debate in Atlanta.
Reports have named three potential Republicans as Trump’s choice, including Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R).
However, others still considered to be in the running include Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), and Ben Carson.
As for this week’s presidential debate, Trump said that his VP choice would “most likely” be there supporting him against President Joe Biden.
“They’ll be there,” he said. “I think we have a lot of people coming.”
Still, those waiting to find out will have to wait a little longer, as the former president says he plans on making the pick “right around the convention.”
“Maybe a little before, but could be at the convention,” Trump said. “But we’ll have some great people.”
