Conspiracy theories about Princess of Wales Kate Middleton have run wild since Kensington Palace announced she was admitted to the hospital in January for planned abdominal surgery.
She stepped out of the spotlight after the announcement, and rare glimpses of her have generated even more speculation and controversy. Middleton apologized for confusion caused by a photo shared to royal social media accounts. People also debated about whether a video that appeared to be of the princess and her husband, William, Prince of Wales, was real.
Now, there’s an update expected on the princess’s health. She confirmed in a video that she is in the early stages of chemotherapy cancer treatment.
“In January I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful, however tests after the operation found cancer had been present,” she said. Middleton said the news came as a shock and that her family needed time for her to recover from surgery and to explain the situation to her children.
Middleton, 42, married William in 2011. They have three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
“The family's official residence is Kensington Palace. As well as undertaking royal duties in support of The King, both in the UK and overseas, Her Royal Highness devotes her time to supporting a number of charitable causes and organisations, several of which are centred around providing children with the best possible start in life,” according to the royal family website.
