A man in Maryland has been accused of stealing a forklift from a Lowe’s Home Improvement store, taking it off the property, and using it to run over a woman in a nearby Home Depot parking lot on Saturday, police shared on Monday.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office released a statement, which shared that Bryce Caleb Timothy Brown, 20, of Waldorf, has been charged with first-degree murder for his last weekend.

Officers were notified of a burglary and theft in progress at the Lowe’s about 40 minutes after midnight on Saturday. The sheriff’s office says Brown “broke into the business, stole a forklift, and rammed it through the rear gates.”

After leaving the store, Brown drove the forklift to a Home Depot located about half a mile away. Police say that while there, Brown used the forklift to ram a vehicle in the Home Depot parking lot.

Inside the vehicle was 73-year-old Gloristine Pinkney, of Waldorf, who was sleeping, authorities say. Brown is not believed to have known the woman.

Once Brown started making contact with her car, the sheriff’s office says, she woke up and started running away.

“Brown followed her, struck her with the forklift and ran over her, and then stole the victim’s car and fled,” according to the sheriff’s office. “Officers who were investigating the initial burglary at Lowe’s canvassed the area and observed the forklift in the Home Depot parking lot. They subsequently discovered the victim underneath of the forklift; she was pronounced deceased on the scene.”

Brown was arrested on Sunday evening after police were able to identify him. Along with first-degree murder, Brown has also been charged with second-degree murder, assault, and theft.
