A man in Yakima, Washington was recently arrested for a shooting that he claims was made in self-defense.

Apparently, the man was putting away some cans of soda in a fridge when one exploded...and he got startled.

He immediately pulled the gun out of his waistband and fired a couple of rounds into the fridge. Some neighbors were alarmed and phoned the police. When the authorities arrived, they found the man "yelling incoherently" in an alleyway.

He tried to tell police that he thought the people in his basement were trying to kill him, and that they had actually shot AT him, so he fired his weapon back in self-defense.

The thing is the man's house does not have a basement, and he literally shot his fridge because a soda exploded.

He was promptly arrested.

Per KOMO News, the man is now facing charges of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and discharge of a firearm.
