Authorities have launched a manhunt for a convicted sex offender who escaped from his Texas prison, where he was serving a life sentence without parole, police shared.

Robert Yancy, Jr., 39, escaped from the Clemens Unit in Brazoria, Texas, on Sunday, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Yancy was serving his life sentence after being charged with continuously sexually abusing a child, authorities shared.

On Sunday at 3:38 p.m., Yancy escaped in a white Nissan Versa that also had his mother inside, according to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, which also said that it doesn’t believe he is still in Brazoria.

The Nissan’s license plate has since been entered into a statewide plate reader system, resulting in a report of the car being spotted at 6:09 p.m. in Victoria County, 110 miles west of the prison, the sheriff’s office noted.

The Victoria Police Department was notified of the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at about 8:25 p.m.

However, Yancy was not found inside the car, only a woman, who was arrested on an outstanding warrant related to his escape.

Police have not shared who the woman is at this time.

Yancy was last seen wearing a black beanie and black sweater. Authorities are urging the public not to approach him if they see him, only to contact law enforcement.
