Authorities in San Jacinto County, Texas, are looking for a mass shooting suspect who allegedly fled the county.
“This is still a very fluid scene and an active investigation,” said Sheriff Greg Capers in a Saturday morning Facebook post. “The Texas Rangers are currently on scene aiding with the investigation.”
According to Capers, the mass shooting occurred on the 100 block of Walters Road in the Trails End area of Cleveland, Texas. He said night shift patrol deputies were dispatched to a residence in that area for a harassment complaint and received multiple 911 calls about an active shooter as they made their way to the scene.
“Multiple deputies arrived at the residence and located multiple victims deceased in a [residence] and several others in critical condition from multiple gunshot wounds,” Capers said.
As of Saturday morning, four victims were confirmed dead inside the residence. An 8-year-old child was airlifted via helicopter requested by Allegiance Mobile Health to a trauma center and later declared dead at the hospital.
Additionally, there were three victims who were transported to the hospital and Capers said their condition was unknown Saturday morning.
Two others were evaluated at the scene and released. Identities of the victims had not yet been released as of 8:30 a.m. CT Saturday.
“Montgomery County SWAT arrived to assist and cleared several properties adjacent to the crime scene and determined that the shooter had fled the county,” said Capers. An arrest warrant has been issued for the suspect and a judge has also assigned a $5 million bond.
Capers asked people to avoid the area around the crime scene and said more information will be released about the shooting as details become available.
