Mattel apologizes after printing porn site on ‘Wicked’ dolls packaging

The toy giant Mattel has issued an apology after it printed the web address of a pornographic site on the packaging for its latest toys for the forthcoming movie “Wicked.”

While the packages were meant to send consumers to the website for the movie adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical, users on X pointed out that it instead advertised a website that requires users to be 18 years or older to enter.

The special edition dolls were quickly trending on social media when users discovered the fine print on the box had the error.

“The official Mattel Wicked dolls link to a porn site on the box,” one user said with images of the toys.

The site on the box is “Wicked.com” instead of the intended “WickedMovie.com,” according to an issued statement from Mattel shared with CNN.

“Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the US, which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page,” Mattel shared with CNN.

“We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this. Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children,” the company continued.

Mattel shared that those who have purchased one of the dolls should throw away the packaging or obscure the link.

“Wicked,” which is part one of the story, will debut in theaters on Nov. 22. The second film is expected in November 2025.
