Best Buy has announced the recall of more than 250,000 Insignia air fryers sold in the United States and Canada over fire, burn, and laceration hazards.

According to the recall issued by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, the handles on the air fryers can overheat, melt, or break, resulting in fire and burn risks to consumers using them.

The overheating handles can also result in the glass door of the oven shattering, which brings another risk of fire, burn, or cut injuries.

So far, there have not been any injuries reported as a result of the issue, though the company has received six reports of the air fryers catching fire and 24 reports of glass shattering due to overheating.

The model numbers affected in the recall include NS-AF34D2, NS-AF5DSS2, NS-AF5MSS2, NS-AF8DBD2, NS-AF10DBK2, and NS-AF10DSS2. The model numbers can be found on the label underneath the air fryers.

The recall shared that more than 187,000 units were sold at Best Buy in the US, and almost 100,000 were sold in Canada. The air fryers were sold in-store and online, as well as through third-party sellers from November 2021 through November 2023.

“The air fryers and air fryer ovens have cooking chamber capacities ranging from about 3.4 to 10 quarts, and plastic or plastic and stainless-steel bodies in black and stainless-steel finishes,” the recall stated.

Consumers with one of the affected products are advised to stop using them immediately and visit the recall site for instructions on how to be refunded. Customers should not try to return the air fryers to Best Buy, the recall said.
