A popular frozen treat that sold at chain grocers like Target and Wegmans was recalled by the Food and Drug Administration this week over an undeclared allergen.
The FDA shared in a recall notice that 1,350 cases of the My Mochi peach mango sorbet would be recalled after pasteurized cooked egg white was found to be missing from the product’s ingredient list on its packaging.
The agency shared that the recall comes after two reported cases of a “minor allergic response” occurred.
When it comes to food allergens, eggs are one of the most common among children, according to the Mayo Clinic. The clinic also shared that someone who is allergic to eggs and consumes them can experience mild or severe cases of congestion, hives, sneezing, skin inflammation, rashes, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and asthma-like symptoms.
Severe reactions could result in anaphylaxis, which results in airways constricting, creating a life-threatening situation, as the person may struggle to breathe.
My Mochi is sold nationwide at various retailers, but a spokesperson for the company shared with Newsweek that it was sold at “approximately 100 Target stores,” noting that the recall was “really small.”
The recalled boxes are for the peach mango flavor. They are sold in the freezer section and come in a 7.5-ounce box of six labeled with the lot numbers 337-24 and 341-24.
If you have purchased one of the recalled products, the FDA notes that consumers can return them for a full refund.
