A Central Texas woman found a hailstone measuring about 5 1/2 inches in her yard following Tuesday's storms.

Gina Brown of Salado -- just southeast of Fort Hood -- posted pictures of the hailstone and videos of the storm on social media Tuesday evening.

"My eyes caught this big piece of what I thought was styrofoam blowing around in the front yard," Brown said. "And I went to grab it and just could not believe that it was a piece of hail."

There were reports of tornadoes Tuesday night near Salado and in the Williamson County cities of Florence and Jarrell. The National Weather Service will survey the damage in the communities on Wednesday.

There were no reports of tornadoes in North Texas Tuesday night, but a Dairy Queen in Ennis sustained heavy damage from straight-line winds.

The Salado hailstone still had about an inch to go to be the largest in Texas history. The National Weather Service measured a nearly 6 1/2-inch piece of hail after a storm in Hondo in April 2021.
