There has been a medical development at Northwestern University and it involves an implantable device that relieves pain.
A team of researchers have developed a small, flexible, and dissolvable implant that relieves pain on demand and without the use of drugs. Medical experts say it’s the first-of-its-kind device and could provide a much-needed alternative to opioids.
The device is the thickness of a sheet of paper, soft, and elastic. It works by wrapping around nerves to block pain signals to the brain. An external pump enables the user to remotely activate the device and then increase or decrease its intensity. After the device is no longer needed, it naturally absorbs into the body.
