Obama criticizes Trump over comments and dancing: ‘Can you imagine if I did that?’

Former President Barack Obama is continuing to hit the campaign trail for Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris, this time appearing in Arizona last Friday.

During his speech in the battleground state, the former president took several shots at his successor, saying that former President Donald Trump’s actions and recent comments would be concerning if it were anyone else.

“He called himself ‘the father IVF,’” Obama said. “I do not know what that means. You do not, either. He said January 6th was ‘a day of love.’ You would be worried if your grandpa was acting like this.”

While the crowd laughed about Obama’s remarks, he doubled down, saying it wasn’t a joke.

“No, no. I’m not joking. You would, right? You’d call up your cousins, and you’d say, ‘Have you noticed?’” he added.

Trump received criticism last week after he held a town hall in Pennsylvania earlier last week, but instead of answering questions, he stood and danced to music for almost 40 minutes.

“Let me explain because I’ve done a lot of town hall meetings,” Obama said in Arizona. “The point of a town hall meeting is to take questions. He just decided, you know what, I’m going to stop taking questions, and then he’s swaying to ‘Ave Maria’ and ‘Y.M.C.A.’ for about half an hour. Folks are standing there, not sure what’s happening. Can you imagine if I did that?”

Several Democrats and even Harris’s campaign have questioned Trump’s mental fitness, much like he did for Biden when he was still in the race.

“I do have to point out that along with his intentions, there is also a question of his competence,” Obama said. “Have you seen him lately? I mean, he is out there, he’s giving two, two-and-a-half-hour speeches. Just word salads. You have no idea what he’s talking about.”

Obama then brought up Trump’s concerning remarks, including one he made about the fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter earlier this year.

“Has anyone ever seen ‘The Silence of the Lambs’? The late, great Hannibal Lecter. He’s a wonderful man. He, oftentimes, would have a friend for dinner. Remember the last scene? ‘Excuse me, I’m about to have a friend for dinner,’ as this poor doctor walked by. ‘I’m about to have a friend for dinner.’ But Hannibal Lecter. Congratulations. The late, great Hannibal Lecter,” Trump said in May.

Obama spoke before the crowd in Tucson, Arizona, with less than three weeks to go until Election Day. He is expected to appear again in Georgia in the coming days.
