A United States Olympic volleyball player is recovering after she was attacked by a homeless man with a metal pipe in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Kim Glass explained the incident on her Instagram story, saying that she was leaving a lunch in Downtown Los Angeles when a homeless man ran up to her.

“He had something in his hand, he was on the other side of the car in the street,” she explained. “And he look at me with some pretty hateful eyes and, um, and I turned to go tell my friend, ‘I think something’s wrong with him. I think he’s gonna hit the car’…before I knew it, a big metal bolt, like pipe, hit me…”
An LA resident, who was sitting in his car eating lunch, heard screaming and ran to the scene to detain the suspect, keeping him pinned down until police arrived.
"I'm hearing more and more screaming. I'm like dang. So I get out the car. And I look — it's this lady bleeding, like, all over the place. Like, it was crazy," Benson Parks told NewsNation.
Parks said he took action because no one else was doing anything -- they were just standing around filming the incident with their phones.
"To me, it's just normal — especially a woman, like any woman out there defenseless. If you have it in your ability to help her, then you should help her," Parks told the outlet.
Police arrived and arrested the 51-year-old suspect on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, NewsNation reported. His name has not been released.
Glass suffered fractures on her face and also had to get stitches.
"Right now, it looks like my vision will be OK and I got really great stitching from the doctor. I have just amazing family and friends around me and just supporting me and that has been the best part," she said.
Glass reached out to thank Parks on social media, saying: "My heart fills up knowing that so many good people won't turn a blind eye."
Parks said others have reached out to him as well, offering rewards for his good deed -- but he's turned away all favors, saying he was just doing the right thing.
Charges against the suspect are pending.
Glass competed on the women’s U.S indoor volleyball team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics where she won a silver medal.
