Police say parents in Illinois dialed Uber for a delivery of Narcan when they discovered their toddler had overdosed instead of dialing 911.

Edward Weiher, 49, and his fiancé, Alexa Balen, 28, were charged with first-degree murder Monday in the death of their daughter, Trinity, in their Homer Glenn, Illinois, home on November 6, 2024.

Police say they ordered Narcan through Uber when they noticed their 2-year-old with signs of an overdose and then waited nearly four hours to call for emergency help, during which time they looked up “how to stop an OD” and “how to stop an OD without naloxone” on Balen's phone.

When they finally did call for help and first responders arrived, they noted that Weiher was performing chest compressions on the baby to try to restart her breathing.

They also noticed, per court records, that cocaine and heroin were on the countertops and tables in their dwelling, "as well as several pieces of burnt tin foil, believed to be from doing heroin."

"Suspected heroin was also discovered on a mattress in the living room where the entire family, including the couple’s six-year-old daughter, slept each night," The Independent reported.
