A plumber from across the pond recently shared a stunning discovery he made while digging up the floor beneath a client’s bathroom.
More than 20 bones were buried beneath the bathroom’s floorboards.
“After I removed the toilet and floor covering, I found that [the] subflooring below was massively rotten,” said Jonathan Betts, owner of JB Plumbing in Plymouth, Devon. “I made the customers aware, who have been on holiday, that I will need to dig out the soil.”
Betts shared his morbid discovery in videos posted to TikTok, eventually laying out the full complement of remains he discovered.
“As you can imagine I started to stress out, especially when I found a jaw bone with teeth!” he admitted.
Luckily, consultations with peers and searches of Google revealed good news: The bones were not human, but rather from a pig, which led to Betts reburying them.
“The bones have placed back under the floor when we found out that back in the day people buried them to ward off bad spirits,” Betts said. “After speaking with the owners of the home, they informed me that the house opposite used to be a pig farm, and they think the barn attached to their property was in fact a slaughterhouse.”
Commenters beneath his January 7 update on TikTok were just as happy as Betts was at the revelation.
“Let’s just say it’s not every day you’re at work and find a pile of bones under a bathroom floor,” Betts said. “I have been in the industry for over 20 years — and I’ve never seen anything like it before.”
