A new Quinnipiac University poll indicates that NFL fans favor expanding the regular season to 18 games.
The NFL is considering expanding the regular 17-game season.
Nick Pietruszkiewicz, Program Director of Sports Communications for Quinnipiac, tells KDKA Radio that it's a not question of if this will happen, but rather when.
“Reducing the number of preseason games and adding another regular season game seems to be both logical and just a matter of time, it’s just how soon,” said Pietruszkiewicz. “Could it have been next season? I thought so, it might not be, but at some point, we’re going to see 18 regular season games.”
According to the poll, 60 percent of NFL fans support that idea.
In addition, 56 percent of Americans are in favor of moving the Super Bowl to the Presidents' Day holiday weekend.
“Nobody wants to go to work the day after the Super Bowl so I think that people have a strong appetite to have the Super Bowl moved to Presidents' Day weekend, so you can watch the Super Bowl on Sunday and you don’t have to worry about going to work on Monday,” added Pietruszkiewicz.
But, for now, the Super Bowl will continue to be held on the Second Sunday in February.
Super Bowl LX (60) will be played on February 8, 2026.
