The Republican National Committee’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., was put on lockdown Wednesday morning with hazmat units at the scene.

It has not yet been shared what caused the security alert, but a source told The New York Post that “It sounds like vials of blood were sent in a package and something broke open.”

NBC News reported that three sources confirmed that vials of blood had been sent to the building. The package has since been cleared by capitol police, but the building remains on lockdown as testing of the blood is being completed.

No immediate reports of injuries have been made at this time.

This is a breaking story that will be updated as information becomes available.
