A grocery store security guard was shot while working at his South Seattle store late on Monday after a shoplifter he kicked out earlier in the day allegedly returned with a weapon looking for revenge, according to local authorities.
Police responded to a call of shots fired at around 11 p.m. outside the store, and when they arrived, they found the security guard with gunshot wounds to his legs, according to a press release.
Witnesses told police that the victim was kicking people out of the store for stealing earlier in the day.
Not all of the shoplifters took so kindly to being kicked out, however, as one of them reportedly punched and spit on the security guard, the release said.
However, as awful as that was, it wasn’t the end of the confrontation. The thief and another group of suspects came back to the store armed with a large stick and a firearm with the alleged purpose of confronting the guard.
A fight broke out between the guard, several other people, and the suspects until one of the suspects shot the guard and fled, the release said.
The guard's condition is unknown at this time.
The Seattle Police Department has not made any arrests related to the incident yet, but the investigation remains ongoing.
