Two people were killed and four wounded when a gunman opened fire on Saturday night in the Fort Worth area before turning the weapon on himself, police reported,

The Haltom City police held a news conference after the shooting, and Sgt. Rick Alexander shared that a man and woman had been killed with an "elderly female," who initially contacted the police, being injured along with three officers.

The elderly female and the three officers all are expected to have suffered "non-life-threatening injuries," according to Alexander. He said that one male officer "was hit in the right arm, finger and his leg" and "another male officer was hit in both legs and the third was hit in the upper thigh."

As for the shooter, Alexander shared that the suspect was an adult male and had been confirmed deceased from a "self-inflicted gunshot wound."

"He had a military-style rifle near him and a handgun within the vicinity of his arm," Alexander shared, adding that officers had returned fire.

The shooting took place around 6:45 p.m., and a manhunt for the suspect was launched in the area, with residents being advised to stay in their homes, NBC 5 reported.

The motive behind the shooting is unknown, and Alexander said, "it's going to be a while before we get that information."

Alexander also noted that the Texas Rangers were taking over the investigation.
