More than 26,000 pounds of TGI Fridays boneless chicken bites have been recalled due to possible contamination with plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Friday.

Per the notice, Simmons Prepared Foods Inc. of Van Buren, Ark., recalled 26,550 pounds of 15 ounce cartons containing “TGI FRIDAYS BONELESS CHICKEN BITES HONEY BBQ CHICKEN” produced on Oct. 3. The lot code for this product is KL3K03, a Best By date of 12/26/2024 is listed on the cartons and they have establishment number “P-20287” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

According to the USDA, Simmons learned about the potential contamination when it received customer complaints about clear, hard plastic found under the breading of the boneless chicken bites. Thus far, there have been no reports of injury or illness related to the complaints.

“Anyone who is concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider,” said the USDA. Its Food Safety and Inspection Service is concerned that some consumers may still have product included in this recall in their freezers and said that those who have purchased the bites should not consume them.

Instead, it urges consumers to throw them away or return them to the place where they were purchased.

“Consumers with food safety questions can call the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854) or send a question via email to MPHotline@usda.gov. For consumers that need to report a problem with a meat, poultry, or egg product, the online Electronic Consumer Complaint Monitoring System can be accessed 24 hours a day at https://foodcomplaint.fsis.usda.gov/eCCF/,” said the USDA.
