Toyota is recalling approximately 751,000 large SUVs over an issue that could cause the front bumper cover to fall off.

The recall covers certain Toyota Highlanders from the 2020 through 2023 model years, including gas-electric hybrids.

The automaker said the problem is with the mounting tabs that hold the front bumper covers on the vehicles.

Even a "minor impact" to the lower bumper could cause the mounting tabs to detach and parts of the assembly could fall into the road, increasing the risk of a crash or injury, Toyota said.

The automaker did not mention if it had received any reports of crashes being caused by the issue.

Toyota is expected to notify owners by late December.

Dealers will install retention hardware with an improved mounting tab design, and could possibly replace the bumper cover if there is damage to the assembly, all free of charge.
