Former President Donald Trump took to social media over the weekend to discuss the attack on Israel by the militant political group Hamas.

Trump claimed that had he been in office, the attack on Israel and the war in Ukraine would “never have happened.”

“THE HORRIBLE ATTACK ON ISRAEL, MUCH LIKE THE ATTACK ON UKRAINE, WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED IF I WERE PRESIDENT – ZERO CHANCE!” Trump wrote Sunday in a Truth Social post.

The comments came just a day after the group that rules Gaza launched its surprise attack on Israel. So far, more than 1,100 people on both sides have died, and thousands more have been wounded. Missiles were fired in some parts of the country as members of Hamas invaded multiple Israeli towns by land, sea, and air.

With Israeli citizens and soldiers being taken captive and the attacks from Hamas continuing, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has since declared war on the group.

Trump has often praised the relationship he had with Netanyahu while in office and the policies he put in place to support Israel’s claim to Golan Heights. He also recognized Jerusalem as the country’s capital and moved the U.S. Embassy to the city.

While speaking at an event in Iowa on Saturday, Trump spoke about the attacks from Hamas, saying it was a result of the Biden administration portraying the nation as “weak and ineffective.”

“The Israeli attack was made because we are perceived as being weak and ineffective and with a really weak leader,” Trump said in a jab at President Biden.

Still, the president is offering what help he can to Israel, saying this weekend that the U.S. is prepared to offer “all appropriate means of support” to the nation.
