In a Truth Social post Thursday, former President Donald Trump claimed that government documents found this summer at his Mar-a-Lago estate were merely “cool” keepsakes.

“Remember, these were just ordinary, inexpensive folders with various words printed on them, but they were a ‘cool’ keepsake,” he said.

Reports of a Federal Bureau of Investigation raid of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate began rolling in last September. In November, the U.S. Department of Justice announced the appointment of a Special Counsel to address the case and referred to the documents as “classified” documents.

“Based on recent developments, including the former President’s announcement that he is a candidate for President in the next election, and the sitting President’s stated intention to be a candidate as well, I have concluded that it is in the public interest to appoint a special counsel,” said Attorney General Garland.

In his Truth Social post, Trump went on to say “perhaps the Gestapo took some of these empty folders when they Raided Mar-a-Lago, & counted them as a document, which they are not. It’s also possible that the Trump Hating Marxist Thugs in charge will ‘plant’ documents while they’re in possession of the material. As President, and based on the Presidential Records Act & Socks Case, I did NOTHING WRONG. JOE DID!”

This month, information about President Joe Biden mishandling documents during his eight-year tenure as vice president came out. Garland also announced the appointment of a special counsel “related to the possible unauthorized removal and retention of classified documents or other records discovered at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement and the Wilmington, Delaware, private residence of President Joseph R. Biden Jr.”

While the FBI issued a search warrant to retrieve materials from Trump, Biden reportedly turned over the documents he had willingly and immediately after they were discovered. Both cases are still being investigated.

Trump also said that he planned to make a speech in Miami Thursday.
