Former President Donald Trump says he doesn’t believe Vice President Kamala Harris’s claims that she once worked at McDonald’s, saying he spoke with the manager at the store where she said she worked.
Trump shared his thoughts on Friday during his appearance on the show “Fox & Friends.” The GOP nominee said that he has a friend who owns a McDonald’s and that he’s going to stop by and “do everything” at the restaurant.
“I’m going because she lied,” Trump said.
He was then asked by co-host Brian Kilmeade if he thought Harris “ever worked in McDonald’s,” to which Trump shared he didn’t.
“I know she didn’t. We checked it out,” Trump said. “They said she never worked here. She even picked the store. We went to the manager. The manager’s been there forever. ‘You remember her. No, she never worked here.’”
The remark from Trump comes as Harris has tried to show she isn’t the same as the billionaire real estate mogul but more of a normal person like the majority of voters.
“Part of the reason I even talk about having worked at McDonald’s is because there are people who work at McDonald’s in our country who are trying to raise a family,” Harris told MSNBC last month. “I worked there as a student.”
She added that she thinks “part of the difference between me and my opponent includes our perspective on the needs of the American people and what our responsibility, then, is to meet those needs.”
The election is almost two weeks away, and Harris and Trump remain in an extremely close race. Most national polls show they are within one to three points of each other in battleground states that are expected to determine the election.
Trump is expected to make an appearance at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s sometime on Sunday, according to reports from CNN. The report says he still plans to work as a fry attendant at the restaurant.
