Trump says Biden’s preemptive pardons for Jan. 6 committee members are ‘void’

President Donald Trump appears to be looking for a way to go after the members of Congress who investigated him on the Jan. 6 Select Committee.

In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump said that the preemptive pardons issued by former President Joe Biden for the members of the committee were “void, vacant, and of no future force of effect.”

In his post, Trump claimed that the pardons were issued without former President Biden’s knowledge.

“The ‘Pardons’ that Sleepy Joe Biden gave to the Unselect Committee of Political Thugs, and many others, are hereby declared VOID, VACANT, AND OF NO FURTHER FORCE OR EFFECT, because of the fact that they were done by Autopen. In other words, Joe Biden did not sign them but, more importantly, he did not know anything about them!”Trump wrote in the post.

He went on to allege that the necessary documents were not “explained to” or “approved by” Biden while he was in office.

“He knew nothing about them, and the people that did may have committed a crime,” Trump wrote. “Therefore, those on the Unselect Committee, who destroyed and deleted ALL evidence obtained during their two-year Witch Hunt of me, and many other innocent people, should fully understand that they are subject to investigation at the highest level.”

In the final hours of his presidency, several high-profile people were pardoned preemptively by Biden, as a means to protect them from political persecution from the incoming administration.

As his time in the White House was running out, pardons were issued for Dr. Anthony Fauci, Retired Gen. Mark Milley, the members and staff of the House committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, as well as the U.S. Capitol Police and D.C. Metropolitan police officers who testified before the Select Committee.

Biden shared in a statement at the time that the pardons are meant to serve as protection for those who were serving their nation.

“These public servants have served our nation with honor and distinction and do not deserve to be the targets of unjustified and politically motivated prosecutions,” Biden said in a statement.

However, Trump alleges that autopen was used for the pardons, as well as several other times during Biden’s administration, making them void. The White House has not released evidence of Trump’s claims.
